*We have started talking about AR in class. We are working on it together for Quarter 1. Students will set individual goals and can work on it at home if they wish for Quarter 2 and beyond!
Accelerated Reading!
Hello
First Grade Families,
Last week
we began talking about Accelerated Reading (AR) in class. This is a program
that allows students to take comprehension tests on the books that they read at
school and/or home. Students earn points based on the length/difficulty of the
book and how many questions they answered correctly. This program really
challenges students and also helps them make good decisions when choosing a
book that is right for them.
Since this
program is completely online, they can take tests at home if you choose. This
is NOT a requirement or extra homework. Students may ask if they can take a
test at home, so here is what you do:
- Click on “I’m a Student”, then enter your child’s username and password.
- Click on “start working” under Accelerated Reader.
- Search for the book you want to test on, and click take test!
Some books will
have vocabulary practice and quizzes as well. Students may do those, but I keep
track of the reading quizzes only right now.
*Most
books are worth ½ point - 1 point. Longer books, including chapter books are
worth more. If you are reading a book with your child, he/she can take a test
on those books as well!
HAPPY READING!
HAPPY READING!
