AR Party - Minute to Win It!

33 1st graders reached their 1st quarter AR goal, and they had a party today! We played Minute to Win It games. Congrats to the students who made their goal. We are very proud of you!

For the first game, they had to use a straw to transfer a smarties from a cup to a plate. Take a look!

For the second game, Face the Cookie, the kids had to use only the muscles in their face to get a cookie from their forehead to their mouth. This was challenging, but so much fun! Take a look!

Traveling Trophy!

The traveling trophy is something new this year. Elementary staff members put in votes for classes who are "traveling" from place to place respectfully, responsibly, and safe. We have been working very hard at staying level 0 and keeping self to self in the hallway. I am so happy to announce that we are the first class to receive the trophies! Way to go first grade! I am so proud of all your hard work!

Math Videos!

Hello families!
As many of you know we started a new series last year, Math Expressions.  This program is awesome, but some of the strategies are quite different from how we learned math in elementary school.  So to help with that process we have made a tutorial to go along with the homework coming home in Thursday folder. I have created a new "Math Videos" page up top. The first video is posted! If you ever have questions about homework, please ask!

Happy Learning!

PAWSitive Behavior!

HI 1st grade families and friends!
We had a fantastic second week. :) I gave out a lot of PAWS to students who were being safe, responsible, and respectful. We got 3 compliments in the hallway today from other adults for our behavior! Way to go! Please continue to encourage your child to earn those PAWS cards!

We did our first art project today... take a look! I can already tell that I have 22 creative kids this year!

1st Week!

We had an OUTSTANDING first week of school! :) I am so proud of every student in our class. We worked really hard this week on procedures and expectations. Next week, we will begin our "regular" schedule.

The first math homework packet will be in Thursday folders next week, and it is due back to school by the following Thursday.

The first spelling homework sheet will be sent home on September 25th, and those sheets will also be due back the following Thursday.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about homework, please let me know right away!

I am excited to work with all of you this year!

Painting Like Michelangelo

Today we learned about the artist Michelangelo. Did you know it took him 4 years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?! He was famous for painting, sculpting, designing buildings, and poetry.

We pretended we were painting the ceiling of a building like Michelangelo did. Take a look!

You Reached Your Goal!

Congrats to the 11 students who reached their AR goal this quarter. We celebrated today with some cupcakes and games! We played draw the tail on the donkey, draw the beard on the minion, and draw a nose on Olaf! It was a blast. :)
